About "Papaya Playa Project"

Simply put, to the Papaya Playa Project, sustainability is everything. It means the protection of a healthy biodiversity and vibrant life for future generations and integrity for the current one. Sustainability also means Papaya Playa finding the best methods to support the local economy by interacting with locals and the traditional artisans as partners in the management of our natural resources and our relationship with Nature.

On July 2015 we launched our mission to achieve a ”zero emissions and zero contamination community by June 2018”. Since then we have been learning and working with passion and conviction with a team of experts implementing proven technologies, changing paradigms and administrating better energy sources to the point where today we have achieved “zero aquifer contamination, and reduced carbon emissions by almost 66% in comparison to pre-emission levels”.

Things to Do

Cenote Diving

Close by are some spectacular underground caverns with rivers inside called cenotes (pronounced say-no-tays) that we can show you. Let our experienced guides take you for an underground diving adventure that you will never forget. No special qualifications are required for cavern diving here, just your Open Water or higher certification and reasonable buoyancy control.

Kite Surfing

The Sian Kite Water Sports Center & Kite Boarding School gives you the breathtaking opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Caribbean sea. It offers kite boarding lessons for all abilities, from complete beginner courses to advanced coaching with pro-riders, always putting safety and passion first. The Sian Kite Center team says that kite boarding is addictive and invites you to pass by and experience it on your own.

Scuba Diving

We have a wide variety of ocean dive sites that we visit, all within a 15-minute boat ride from the hotel. The local reefs are pretty healthy with lots of soft and hard corals as well as a variety of marine life. We have three boats operating to ensure that we can keep our groups small and we always try to keep divers with similar experience levels together. Also, if you are considering taking any dive courses while you are here, we have an excellent team of experienced PADI Dive Instructors who would be happy to help you.

Sian Kaan

A fascinating, full-day trip to one of the area's most amazing sites: Sian Kaan. Board a boat to explore the mangroves at Asuncion Bay in search of marine turtles and dolphins followed by Culebra Caye where several marine birds concentrate. Then, get ready for some reef snorkeling before capping the day off with a visit to a fabulous natural pool.
